If you’ve finally decided to take your business to the online space and introduce it to a broader audience (or if you simply want to try and venture into the eCommerce game), you probably already have a good store name in mind. The only problem now is how you can register it as a domain name for your website.
If you are using CommerceHQ for your business, then I can definitely teach you how you can do so in a few simple and straightforward steps!
In this video, I am going to show you how you can setup your custom domain name for your website via CommerceHQ.
What is a Domain Name?
Basically, the domain name is the name of your website. But more than that, it is the name of your brand — the name that will appear on each and every bit of your marketing material to showcase and advertise your products to a broad audience. It is the frontliner for all your future transactions and possible partnerships. And best of all, it is the name that you would want your site visitors and customers to remember whenever they feel they are in need of a certain product or service that you would specialize in providing them with.
Why Change the Domain Name?
There are a few good reasons why a business should change its domain name, as per ZNet Live. Some of the top ones are:
- A total change in business. Maybe the previous business has not done so well over the course of its operation period, and the owner has decided to do a complete makeover and start again.
- An increase in web traffic. The current website may not be getting enough traction to be branded as “profitable”.
- Reduce online marketing costs. According to the same article by ZNet Live,
- When you change your website domain to a more memorable and meaningful one, it will drive web traffic to your site organically and thus, you will be able to save costs on paid marketing, expensive search engine placements and other advertisings done online.
- Allow your website to become more user-friendly. No one would want to type in a lengthy web address. Heck, if it is long, there’s a great chance that only a select few will be able to remember it in the first place!
If you’re here because of one of the reasons above, then you’re absolutely in for a treat! Let us now discuss how you can setup your custom domain name for CommerceHQ.

Setting Up Your CommerceHQ Domain Name
Purchasing a Domain Name
The first step to everything for today’s topic is to actually purchase your domain name for a tiny fee of $9.44 USD annually. Key in your desired domain name and see if it is available for registration (if not, I’m really sorry about that, but you’ll have to think of another one or a modification of your first choice).
If you already have your credit card information registered to CommerceHQ, all you have to do is to click the Confirm button; otherwise, simply fill out the form and proceed accordingly.
Upon purchase, you should see a popup that says “[custom domain name] successfully created.” This means that your transaction was successful, and you can now move on to setting it up for your website.
Configuring Your Website
Click the Activate SSL button to start the configuration.
Afterwards, you’ll see a popup that says “Please wait 30 minutes to 1 hour until the domain is fully propagated with a green light to activate SSL.” There’s really nothing for you to do here; this is just technical stuff wherein CommerceHQ works behind the curtains to register your domain name onto the Internet.
While you are waiting, you can already start modifying your website by going to Store Setup > General Settings. Change the store name (as an example, I have put on AmyAlexis) and click Save.
Once that’s done, click Change Subdomain.
Key in your domain name and input your password (this is an administrative action, and thus the need for password confirmation).
After you click Confirm, you should expect to be logged out of CommerceHQ, since you made a massive change. And when you do log back in, you can see that your store name and domain name has already been changed!
I’ll bet this won’t even take you 30 minutes or more. So while you’re still waiting for that green light, you can setup and customize your store even further by adding products, setting up your payment options, and more. Easy!
