We all know that the best way to market a product is to use Facebook Ads and, from the data you will gather from them, formalize the best strategy to reach more audiences. But we’re not going to talk about what sort of strategy you should use; today, I want to discuss with you an even more important element: what your Ads should be about.
Generally, an ad must be able to highlight a product’s key features and relevance to the daily problems of the modern world. This is usually the case for a new product or that which is trying to gain traction in the market. Once you find that that product is indeed making you money, it’s time to take your ads to the next level and focus on having it reach more people who might be interested in purchasing.
In this post, we are going to discuss how you can get more customers to buy from your store by using user-generated content.
The Best Way to Market Your Products
So usually, business owners who lack experience in the field of advertising simply revamp their ads — they make slight changes, add a few more slides, etc. However, the unspoken truth is that one of the most profitable methods of marketing a product is to show potential buyers that said product is already being patronized by a good number of customers.
Now, you might be thinking, “Oh, okay. Let’s just use customer reviews from my site, then; crop and edit those and my ads are all good to go.” Yep, you’re exactly right! These reviews are what we call “user-generated content.”
According to a post by Webopedia, “Short for user-generated content, UGC is the term used to describe any form of content such as video, blogs, discussion form posts, digital images, audio files, and other forms of media that was created by consumers or end-users of an online system or service and is publically available to others consumers and end-users. User-generated content is also called consumer generated media (CGM).”
So let’s go back to the topic. You already have a good idea: to use those reviews to entice more and more people to buy. There’s only one problem… getting good customer reviews can be somewhat a drag. When people are satisfied with a product, they usually just run off with it and never look back. Usually, the only times they go and contact customer service is when they have complaints or questions. And it’s not like they are going to actually leave a review when you ask them to.
…Unless you reward their efforts for doing so!
How to Get User-Generated Content
I found that a hassle-free way to obtain these user-generated content is to run a promotional event exclusively for your buyers. What I like to do is to offer them discount codes that they can use on top of other codes (or not, whichever you prefer) should they decide to make another purchase and reach out to them via email. You could say something along the lines of:
“Thank you for your purchase! As a token of appreciation for your support, we want to give you a discount code that you can use on your next purchase from our store. All you have to do is to send a photo or a video review of your most recent purchase, and we’ll get back to you!”
Here are a few tips:
- Do NOT send them the code the first time you try to reach out to them. Nobody receives a “reward” before the work is done. You need to obtain what you need first, which is why you will only be sending the code (or activating it) after a few correspondences.
- Video reviews are more powerful than photo reviews, although that does not mean that the latter is irrelevant. To increase your chances of getting the former, tell your customers that they will get more value when they send over video testimonials.
- When they do imply that they will be sending photo reviews, do not fret. Have them write a short statement about what they love the most about the product and your store in general. You can modify this in a handful of different ways and have more advertisement material in no time.

Head on over to your store’s GMail account and click Compose. Paste your message; on Recipients, click on BCC and paste your email list. Now, if you have a huge list of buyers, I recommend that you send out your emails slowly — around 20 to 30 recipients at a time. Mass-sending of emails can take a bit of time, and you don’t want to waste yours waiting.
