So far we have tried different ways to make more money than what we would expect from selling a product through our online stores, and we have established that the best method to do this is through up sells and down sells via ClickFunnels. If you're not up to date, up sells and down sells are basically other products that would go well with your main offer -- and these are (sometimes) offered at lower costs as a form of promotion, in hopes of enticing potential customers into having yet another product added to their cart.

Now that we've established that, you should also know that there will be a few times when up sells and down sells will not work. This is most likely because your customer just does not have that much money at the moment of purchase, or that your products just don't make the cut or meet your customers' standards.

If you have ever been in this situation and wish to know what you can do to boost your up sells' and down sells' sales, then this post is absolutely for you! Today, I want to show you what you can do to increase profits and eventually succeed in the field of dropshipping and online business.

The Best Up Sell Products for Your eCommerce Store

I'm going to first give you a background on what happened with my own store and why I wish to give you this tutorial.

I had one step in my funnel (the last step, actually) that wasn't performing at all -- yep, zero sales ever since I put it up. It may be because its value is too high for an up sell, since my main offer is at $14 or something, and that particular up sell was at $42. Now, sometimes this works, and most of the time it doesn't; if you think about it, the customer initially only has just enough budget for your main offer, and if you try to sell them something else that costs more than what they actually want to buy, then that could be a problem for their wallets, even if that product is something that could go well with your main product. Besides, up sells are usually composed of add-ons and accessories, so why should it cost higher?

So, if you have an underperforming step in your funnel, you can either leave it be and only hope that it will eventually take off, or you can do what I did.

Obviously, the best solution to this problem is to simply change your up sell or down sell product to something that might be more interesting (and cheaper) for your customer. However, you must keep in mind that one of the best practices to implement when dropshipping is to keep your suppliers at a minimum. That is, if you can afford to have only one supplier, then do so. This is so that you can keep your transactions simplified and organized -- when you export your transactions through CSV files, you won't have to worry about which ones belong to which supplier. Plus, you won't have to deal with a lot of people who might even have different wants and needs!

For some context, my main offer is also a pair of glasses, and my up sell was a watch that was more expensive than my front end. Now, the glasses above is a product from my supplier's AliExpress store. They are priced quite fairly and would go with my front end offer, should my customer decide to switch looks.

What we are then going to do is to go to our ClickFunnels account and edit that particular step which is not making us any money. If you wish to avoid any unnecessary errors or mistakes, simply clone that step and archive the original, then move the clone towards after the order confirmation page. This is to make sure that while we are editing this step, there won't be any customers who can view our changes as they are being implemented (you never know when a customer is browsing through your website!). So let's jump in and edit the clone version; but first, you need to add this step to your funnel, so click on Add to Funnel.

Now it's time to add that product to our step. Go to Products > Add Product.

Under Settings, you can modify your chosen product and set prices. Just remember to put the right price tag onto your product, if you don't want to lose any money or customers at all.

Personally for my own store, I did two offers -- one with a single pair, and the other with two pairs of glasses -- just in case they might want more. I did this during a season when people would go out and buy gifts for the special people in their lives. I took this opportunity and offered a much easier and cost-efficient way of shopping. And this could also be implemented today, at a time when the global pandemic COVID-19 is still affecting thousands of businesses and millions of households worldwide.

That's it! It's a fairly simple task, but this is one that you should pay special attention to, especially if you want to get the best out of ClickFunnels and all its features.

  • If one of your up sells or down sells are not performing as well as you initially expected them to, don't wait any longer; replace that product with something that your customers are yearning for and are potentially profitable and therefore good for your business;
  • Keep your suppliers at a minimum -- this will result in less time to organize your transactions and less effort in making negotiations and communication;
  • Put only the appropriate value for ALL of your products. If they are too costly, no one would ever think of buying from you, unless you have established a strong brand. On the other hand, if they are priced too low, your customers might think less of them (cheap, tacky, low quality), or you might even be branded as a scam business that only wants to get sensitive information out of anyone who is dumb enough to enter your store.
