Have you ever found yourself stuck with a specific task or goal, unsure of where to go or what to do next? Or have you ever felt disappointed with something you did because it didn’t take off nor gain any traction at all?
Did you ever feel like you just wanted to give up and move onto the next thing?
Let me be the first to stop you right there, and tell you that not all hope is lost. Nope, you shouldn’t give up on your tasks and goals, especially when it comes to your business. There might just be one specific thing that you’re overlooking and failing to do — which is what I want to inform you about today, so that you can get back on your feet, feel even more motivated that before, and start making those sales and profit.
In this post, I want to share with you guys my secret to achieving success in almost any goal that I set for myself, including the business of dropshipping.
Becoming a Successful Dropshipper
Let’s get straight up to what you need to know. The one thing that I feel like everybody needs to get really good at, regardless if they would want to pick up dropshipping at all or not, is being consistent. Anything that I have done all throughout my life, I have done so while keeping my focus around the idea of staying consistent and just slowly chipping away at it until I eventually get to where I want to be.
What exactly does being consistent mean, and what does it take for one to be so good at it?
Being consistent is defined as one’s ability to adhere to a specific task in an attempt to develop a habit out of it or to slowly accomplish it. So let’s say you want to be able to cook meals for yourself for 4 full weeks, without having to order takeaways at all costs. To do so, you need to have a clear mindset and impose restrictions on yourself, not to stray away from what you want to do.
Allow me to share with you more examples, and these will be coming from my own personal experiences.
Back in High School…
First is back when I was still in high school. I never was the type of kid that naturally wanted to study. In fact, I never studied, and I was always out doing different past-time activities; school was just never a priority for me. It wasn’t until a few years later that I started getting more serious, as I was about to choose my electives and enter college.
To be honest, it was quite fascinating how I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, but I did know that I wanted to express my creativity through my works. So I moved to software and programming, and one day, as if a switch has been flipped, I just sat down, started studying even harder, and just kept my focus on trying to learn something new everyday.
In the middle of my studying journey, I found that I can already study for a straight 8 hours without even blinking. And it’s all because of a simple trick that I implemented for myself, and that is to consistently study for a full hour every day and gradually increase my study time until I get to that 8-hour goal. Throughout this process, I was also able to figure out how my brain worked and how it processed and absorbed information. Finally, thanks to all this hard work and perseverance, I was able to get the marks that I need to get into my dream university.
I would consider this as the then-biggest achievement of my life, because I never really did dedicate myself to something as strongly and fully as this before.
There was one point in my life wherein I developed the habit of going to the gym for 5 days a week and try to achieve more than what I already did in the past days. So I just went and slowly chipped away at it — I push myself to go to the gym and bench press a specific weight and try to surpass that by adding a bit more as time passes.
Now, all of these might be easier said than done, but trust me when I say that all you actually need to be able to become consistent with anything is a clear goal and become a little more strict with your actions.
How About Running an Online Store?
Now, when it comes to running an online business, the worst part is that you can feel like you are never doing enough. Theoretically, the more effort you put in, and the more mistakes you make, the more you see that there is a lot more to learn, and the process just sort of repeats itself. There’s also the fact that you have to balance work and life, which could become a problem, especially if you are working from home.
In what ways can you then be consistent with running an online store? For one, you can develop a habit of testing new products every day until you discover what would work for you and your target audience. The key here is to not feel discouraged at all about your loss, because at the end of the day, once you find that winning product, you will be able to make up for that significant loss and eventually make more profit.
The best thing I have done in my dropshipping business is to not keep on launching new random products and always trying to find the next best thing. I only focused on finding that one product, and when I did, I shifted my attention to it and just tried to advertise it in a way that would guarantee results. I built a store around it, generated an online persona for it, built and grew my email list… everything I did was solely for the benefit of that product.
See where it got me?
